Adelle Tolbert

Services for Adelle Sapp Tolbert will be at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2019 at First Baptist Church, 909 Main Street, Colfax, LA. Rev. Huey Tademy will be officiating. Interment will be in Farenzie Cemetery under the direction of Robinson Family Mortuary.

Mrs. Tolbert, 89, of Colfax, La, passed away on March 8, 2019 at Colfax Reunion Nursing & Rehab Center.


Sister Adelle Marie Sapp Tolbert was born March 12, 1929, to the late Sis. Elnora Mitchell Sapp and the late Burlin Sapp. She was the youngest of three siblings, being preceded in death by her sister, Mandalou Sapp and her brother, Willie Sapp.


Sister Adelle joined Hopewell Baptist Church and was baptized by Rev. Dan Carey at the age of 5. In later years, her mother moved their membership to First Baptist Church where their Father was a member. After many years of accountability, she received Christ by Faith at the age of 41. She enjoyed her work in the church where she gave her all to the Sunday School Department also serving as a teacher and to the Music Ministry where she served as an organist. She was never happier than when serving her Lord and her church.


Sister Adelle finished Elementary and High School in Grant Parish. She attended Grambling State University and graduated in 1952 with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. She continued her education at Northwestern Sate University where she studied Office Administration. She taught school in Rapides Parish and retired after 25 years. She later served as a grand Parish educator for several years. Students from Colfax Elementary School and North Centrala Head Start, as well as students pursuing General Education Development (GED) credentials were all blessed with Sister Adelle’s knowledge.


Sister Tolbert was united in Holy Matrimony on December 11, 1951 to Wiley Tolbert and remained faithful until death. To her family she was a loving and kind wife and mother. She reared he children in the fear of the Lord and aided others to come to know Jesus as their personal Saviour and Lord.


Adelle is survived by her husband: Wiley Tolbert, sons: Gregory Tolbert and Mark L. Tolbert,

grandchildren: Natasha Chambers & Alexandra Tolbert and Natalia Chambers.


Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until time of service at First Baptist Church.
