Serves for Clyde Beverly Baptiste will be at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Nazarene Baptist Church, 2611 Overton Street, Alexandria, LA. Pastor Herbert V. Baptiste, Jr. will be officiating. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. at the church.
Clyde Beverly Baptiste was born on February 18, 1932, in Bunkie, Louisiana, to the union of the late Milton and Melinda Baptiste. On Saturday, December 6, 2025, Clyde heard the clarion call from Heaven and departed this earthly tabernacle. He was the third of four children. Clyde received his formal education in Rapides Parish, graduating from Peabody High School in 1950. He later went on to attend Grambling College, now known as Grambling State University (GSU). Upon graduation, he accepted a History teaching position at Peabody High, known today as Peabody Magnet High School.
Christian faith was a cornerstone of Clyde’s life. He was baptized at Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a devoted and faithful member throughout his life. He actively served in the Junior Choir and Senior Choir and held leadership roles as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent. He also served as an elder, demonstrating unwavering commitment to God and the church community.
Clyde proudly served his country in the United States military from 1952 to 1954, including 13 months overseas during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Third-degree Mason, reflecting his dedication to service, brotherhood, and community.
His professional life reflected dedication and versatility. Clyde worked as an insurance agent with United Companies Insurance, served as a police jury unemployment counselor, and later as a correctional officer for Allen Parish. In 1992, he retired to care for his beloved wife.
In 1963, Clyde, known to many as “Pepper,” and two of his siblings opened a nightclub in Alexandria known as The Cave. The establishment became a well-known community gathering place and remained in operation until 1992.
Clyde was united in marriage to Frances Nell Williams.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his parents, Milton and Melinda Baptiste, Sr.; his siblings, Milton Baptiste, Jr., Murphy Baptiste, Sr., and Herbert Baptiste, Sr.; his sisters-in-law; his beloved wife, Frances Nell Baptiste; and his special friend, Ernie Hadnot.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Paulette Mychel (Barry Johnson) and Vernestine P. “Sweet Pea” Jiles (Fiancé Jefarion Turner); one grandson, Nicholas A. “Nick” Johnson; one granddaughter, Attorney Alexandra J. “Alex” (Geremy Washington); one goddaughter, Gwen Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
