Ella Mae Porterie

Services for Ella Mae Porterie will be at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at St. Paul Baptist Church, 2766 Hwy 1192, Marksville, LA. Pastor Lawrence Porterie will be officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Church Cemetery.


Ella Mae Porterie entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 7, 2020. Ella was born on October 9, 1955 to the union of Bascum Batiste and Josephine Ford Batiste. She was baptized at an early age at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was a member at New Light Baptist Church for many years. She later became a member at Amazon Baptist Church. She then became an active member of the St. Paul Baptist Church where she worked faithfully with the Mission Dept until her illness. She was also an active member in the choir and always willing to lend a hand in the church. She graduated from Marksville High School in 1973. She later went La Technical College where she earned a certificate as a Medical Office Assistant in 2010.


Ella was employed by Garan’s Sewing Factory, Colonial Nursing Home, Avoyelles Hospital, and then Riviere De Soleil Community Care Center until she became ill. She was a very faithful employee.


Ella was united in holy matrimony in June 9, 1973 to Michael Hawkins, Sr. To that union 9 children were born where 2 proceeded her in death(Tyrone and Tremayne Hawkins). On February 21st, 2015 she was united in holy matrimony to Hillary Porterie, Sr. where they shared a wonderful and happy life together. Ella was a very kind hearted and loving person with a very humble spirit. She was a very peaceful person with a loving personality. She was a hard worker and was always willing to help out anyone when she could. She was a very active and happy person that always had a smile.


She leaves behind to cherish years of beautiful memories.. A devoted, committed, and loving husband, Hillary Porterie. 7 children.. Michael Hawkins, Jr. (LaShanda), Melissa Hawkins Jones (Latron), Cashandra Hawkins, Lamar Hawkins, Jillian Hawkins Taylor (Jordell), Jamecia Hawkins, and Corbin Hawkins. 6 stepsons.. Dondre, Mardell(Holly), Hillary, Jr(Nikkie), Darius, Wesley, and Kalem.. 17 grandchildren.. Laetriona, Mykella, Latyriona, Xavier, Keonna, Tremecianna, Ke’Ron, Shamira, Amya, Lamar Jr., Da’Mon, Jo’Lea, Aubrielle, Jiyah, , Layla, Journee, Jaselle and 1 great-grandson Elyjah. 10 stepgrandkids.. Akyiah, Kamron, Darius, Jr, Kaleb, Raina, Jaden, Kimora, Emerson, Hayden, and Payden. 2 Sisters.. Joyce Edwards, Shirley Bonton(Lonia). 1 Brother.. Harold Batiste(Jane). Sister n laws.. Jacqueline Batiste and Lillie Augustine. Brother n law.. Freddie Porterie. 1 Uncle.. Charlie Ford(Angelina), 1 Aunt.. Beatrice Ford. at uncle, John Hawkins. Ella was greatly loved and will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, and friends.


Ella was proceeded in death by her parents Bascum and Josephine Batiste, 2 sons t Tyrone and Tremayne Hawkins; 1 grandson Jyheem Taylor; and 2 brothers.. Ronald Wallace and Floyd Batiste.
