Mercedes H. Maxwell

Services for Mercedes Hazel Maxwell will be at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 2308 Houston Street, Alexandria, LA. Pastor Stanley R. Mathis will be officiating. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mrs. Maxwell, 85, of Alexandria, LA, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2025, at her home. She is preceded in death by her parents: Robert Hazel and Hester White Jordon, sisters: Essie L. Dugart, Sallie M. King, and Gladys M. Iles, daughter: Reina King, son: Richard Maxwell, Jr, loving husband: Richard Maxwell, Sr., and nephew and Godchild: Terrance Iles.

Mercedes was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church as president of the Usher Ministry, member of the Senior Mision, member of the Outreach Ministry, and Adult Women Sunday School Class.

She attended Rapides Parish Schools. In her early years, she worked many odd jobs, and in 1972, she was employed at Rapides Regional Medical center, where she worked diligently to serve her employer and patients for thirty years.

Mercedes leaves to cherish her memories – seven children: Jimmy (Verna), Robert, Catrina, Cedric (Valarie), Karen, Carl, and Jackie; guardian niece, Rosalyn Hazel, along with 19 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Visitation will begin at 12:00pm at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
