Services for Occie Lee Sykes will be at 11:00am on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at United Missionary Baptist Church, Natchez, LA. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Colfax, LA.
Occie “Bubba” Sykes was born to Jacqueline Delores Sykes on November 13, 1988. He was baptized at an early age by his grandfather, Reverend Albert J. Sykes, Jr.
Occie was educated in Grant and Natchitoches Parish School Systems. He graduated from Natchitoches Central High School in 2007. He immediately joined the United States Army, where he earned the rank of Sergeant. During his time of his service to his country, he was deployed to Afghanistan and later returned as a civilian contractor.
On April 27, 2023, God sent his angel to claim his own while awaiting a heart transplant at Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, Texas. He was 34 years old.
Occie was proceeded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Delores Sykes and grandparents, Rev. Albert J. Sykes and Rosa Cunningham Sykes.
Occie leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Aniyah and Samara Sykes, and one adopted daughter, Samira Williams; his father, Reverend Occie Charles, Jr. and stepmother, Mrs. Frankie Charles; 13 siblings Michael (Charity) Larry, Jr., Antonio (Denay) Larry, Desaria Larry, Chena Sykes, Laquitta (Patrick) Wilkins, Lawanda (Dedric) Smith, Reneish Charles, Ocietric Ficklin, Nekeisha Charles, Shonteisha Charles, Ocietra Ficklin, Whitney Charles, and Jawarren Hunter; grandmother Elvin Sue Charles; four aunts, Dollie (Joe) Mahoney, Bridgett (Albert) Gille, MaryKay (Roderick) Richardson, and Eulilia “ Candi” (Wilbert) Nelson; three uncles, Tony (Stephanie) Charles, Randy Charles and Vernon (Saundra) Sykes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God children, and friends.
