It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley D. Bacon, age 81, of Alexandria, Louisiana. Shirley entered eternal rest on January 2, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 18, 1944, in Alexandria to the late Joseph “Joe” Davis and Ethel Annie Prudhomme-Duckett, Shirley was a proud graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1964.
Shirley was a dedicated housewife, mother, grandmother, and friend to anyone she met. She was a woman of deep faith and simple joys. She was a devoted member and Deaconess of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. Praying and reading her Bible faithfully were something she enjoyed. Throughout her lifetime, her greatest gift to her family was introducing her children and grandchildren to God, not by words but by her actions and deeds. She was indeed a child of God.
Her favorite sanctuary was her own back porch; she prided herself on keeping a beautiful yard and loved sitting outside surrounded by her flowers and God’s beauty. She will be remembered as a steadfast pillar of our family, loved for her warmth, generosity, and mastery of warm, humorous sarcasm.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Bacon Jr.; and her siblings, Sidney Branch Sr., Willie D. Davis, and Freddie Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her three loving children, Maria A. Bacon (Altonio) of Lafayette, LA, Tangula L. Bacon of Alexandria, and Thomas Bacon III of Alexandria; her four grandchildren, Jerry W. Jones Jr. (Geneé) of Georgetown, TX, Jermaine D. Jones Sr. of Lafayette, LA, Sha'corrius Bacon of Orlando, FL, and Jasmine R. Johnson of Lafayette; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
A gravesite funeral service will be held on January 6, 2026, at the Garden of Memory.
