Services for Velma Cooper will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 11:00 amat Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Alexandria, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 and continue until the start of service. Pastor Tom Hamilton, Jr. will be the officiating minister. Interment will be in Cruickshank Cemetery in Colfax, Louisiana.
Velma Cooper departed this life on Sunday August 6, 2023 at the age of 79 at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital surrounded by her family.
She worked as a cook at Poor Paul 's Double V Cafe, and Delia’s Restaurant. Velma was known for her delicious cooking.
Velma was preceded in death by her son Leroy Cooper; her parents and her brother, William Turner, Jr.
Velma is survived by her loving daughter Bessie Harris; six granddaughters; 14 great- grandchildren; two brother, Rufus Turner and Lamar Turner; one sister, Geraldine (James) Hall; great grandson, Zion Shepherd and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
