Vernon C. Elie

Services for Vernon Cassidy Elie will be at 11:00am on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Humphrey officiating.


Vernon Cassidy Elie was born in Pineville, LA on May 18, 1951 to the late Clarence and Thelma Elie Sr. He was surrounded by love and siblings being born the 11th child to this union and departed this life in similar fashion at the family home in Alexandria, LA on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.


Vernon matriculated through the Rapides Parish School System and graduated from Peabody High School with the Class of 1974. He went on to Northwestern State University where he majored in Business Administration and was a few credit hours shy of a Bachelors degree. While attending NSU, Vernon joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc; affectionately known as “the pretty boys” in 1976. He served as the Dean of Pledges the following year and was named Delta Sigma Theta Man of the Year in 1977.


After returning to Alexandria, Vernon began working at Pete Abington and was named the top car salesman on multiple occasions. He spent several years in the car industry and enjoyed helping family members and friends with their purchases for years thereafter.


Vernon was introduced to religion at an early age and attended St. James Catholic Church for a period before converting to the Baptist faith under Rev. Huey P. Lawson at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. For the last few decades; he has been a member of Mt. Calvary under the leadership of Pastor Ronnie Humphrey, Sr.


Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Thelma Elie and his oldest sister, Almarie Norris. He leaves to cherish his memories, seventeen siblings: Ferguson Eli (JoAnn), Blanche Faye Reed, and Gloria Jean Elie all of Dallas, TX; James Eli (Shirley) of Beaumont, TX and Jerry Wayne Elie (Beverly Ann) of Gonzales, LA; Clarence Elie Jr. (Betty), Bernell Elie, Sr., Ethel Jones (Howard), Lionel Elie, Charles Elie, Amelia Gilmore, Donald Elie, Mary Bennett (Clifton Sr.), Pauline Martin, Calvin Elie, Alfreda Carter (David), and Anthony Elie Sr. (Sylvia) all of Alexandria, LA ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Vernon seldomly met a stranger and will be greatly missed by those near and far.
