Alton Dailey, Jr.

Funeral services for Mr. Alton Dailey, Jr. will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at First Evening Star Baptist Church in Cottonport, LA, where Rev. Greg Jackson will officiate. Visitation hours will be observed at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Friday morning. Burial will follow in the Old Zion Baptist Church cemetery in Cottonport, LA., under the direction Robinson Family Mortuary of Pineville, LA.

Mr. Dailey, age 73 of Cottonport, LA, departed this life on Thursday, July 2, 2026, in Baton Rouge, LA.

Alton was born on February 21, 1953, to the late Elnora Posey Dailey and Alton Dailey, Sr., in Pineville, LA. “Diggy Doo,” as he was passionately called by family and friends, was baptized by the late Rev. Henry Wright, Sr., at Old Zion Baptist Church in Cottonport, LA.

After receiving his education at Carver High School in Bunkie, LA. Alton began his working career in the offshore industry. Later, he relocated to Wharton, TX, embarking upon a career as a construction worker and forklift operator. In 2003, Alton returned to Louisiana and obtained a position as a correctional officer at the Raymond Laborde Correctional Facility in Cottonport, LA. He also gained employment in law enforcement with the town of Mansura, LA as a patrolman and with the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff Department as a transportation officer. At his demise, Alton was employed by the Cottonport Police Department as a patrolman.

On January 15, 1977, Alton was united in Holy Matrimony to Linda Ford. One daughter, Jessica, was born to this union. Later in life, on December 6, 2002, he entered the matrimonial bond with Ruth Celestine. To this union, no children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Lionel Dailey, Roy Dailey, and Betty Dailey.

During his spare time, “Diggy Doo” cherished time spent with family and friends. He had a love for horseback riding, sport cars, motorcycling, parades, festivals, trail rides, rodeos, and cooking. He thought his culinary skills were “top notch,” especially his signature dishes of gumbo, wild game, and barbecue.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Celestine-Dailey of Cottonport, LA; three daughters, Jessica Dailey of Shreveport, LA, Christella Demouy of Houston, TX, and AMirah Jones of Marksville, LA; two sons, Paul Oliney of Tallahassee, FL and Chris Augustine of Mansura, LA; one sister, Bernadine D. Hamilton of Sacramento, CA; one brother, Leonard Dailey of Pineville, LA; one uncle, Arthur B. Dailey of Baton Rouge, LA; his godmother, Margaret B. Williams of Cottonport, LA; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
