Effie McKinney Wilkins

Services for Effie McKinney Wilkins will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at Big Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Colfax, Louisiana. Rev. Roosevelt Lair will be Officiating. Visitation begins at 10:00 am and will continue until time of service. Interment will be at Farenzie Baptist Church Cemetery, Colfax, Louisiana.


Effie Doris was born October 16, 1945 in Pineville, Louisiana, to Kathryn Sykes Spottsville and Robert Spottsville. She was called to her heavenly home on January 30, 2024. Effie was baptized at an early age by Reverend Howard Ellis, and was an active, lifelong member of Big Mt Zion Baptist Church. Effie served as Women’s Mission President, Sunday School Teacher, Member of Big Mount Zion Choir. She loved to praise the Lord through song. She also achieved “Golden Soror” status recognizing her 50 years of membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.


Effie Doris married Willie McKinney, Sr., December 21, 1967, they were married 32 years before his death. They were blessed with one son, Willie, Jr. Effie married John Wilkins, April 23, 2005.


She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories her husband of 18 years, John Wilkins; her son, Willie (Debra) McKinney, Jr.; her grandchildren, Shalaya O’Neal, Quincy McKinney, Ashley McKinney, and Jeremiah McKinney; her stepchildren, Althea Boyd, Dominique (Ritonya) Wilkins, Demetrius (Heidi) Johnson, and Thedric Wilkins; many relatives, friends, Sorors, and her Big Mt Zion Church Family.
